Knowledge bases are the future of agents
Hi, I’m the person behind Donkey. I think useful agents will not live in chat boxes only. They will read, write, link and reshape documents. This is where I share the local knowledge tools, AI agent experiments and command-line ideas I keep building.
Why I keep coming back to knowledge bases
Documents are not storage. They are the place where thinking happens. AI becomes useful when it can enter your notes, projects, links and history, then organize, connect and act inside that context.
A few things I care about
Open
Write your own plugins, change anything, never blocked by a closed app’s API. Even the most niche need can ship.
Local-first
The data is mine — it stays on my machine, not on someone else’s server.
Light & fast
Native Rust, no bundled Chromium. Fast startup, small footprint, tiny installer.
Docs as agents
Every note should be readable, writable, linkable and actionable by AI. Documents are not the end state; they are the interface.
For the long run
I only really polish the things I use every day. It gets better slowly.
Restraint
Only build what’s truly needed. No button pile-up, no chasing hype.
